About

A small team, a different architecture.

Ioma Labs is an AI research company. We're building a different kind of language system — a Distributed Cognitive Language System modeled on the human brain, with cognition distributed across regions that can each be inspected, improved, and trusted, rather than packed into a single pass. This is who we are and why we're doing it.

01 — Mission

Why we exist.

We don't believe the limits of today's models are only a matter of scale. A single model running a single pass has structural limits — no separate place to retrieve what it needs, no step to check its own reasoning, no seam between what's true and how it's said. We think the way past them is a different architecture, not a bigger one.

We believe the next generation of assistants will be built, not just trained — modeled on the one cognitive system we know works, the brain: distinct regions that specialize, reason, and check each other before anything reaches the page. Project Ancilla is where we're proving it out.

02 — Approach

How we work.

Principle

Inspectability over opacity

If a tier can't be examined, we treat that as a design problem to solve, not an acceptable cost of capability.

Principle

Test against the frontier, honestly

We benchmark Calliope against frontier models and publish where she wins and where she doesn't — yet.

Principle

Small team, deep ownership

We're early and intentionally small. People here own real pieces of the architecture, not slices of a roadmap.

03 — Team

Who's building this.

Ioma Labs was founded in 2026 by Daniel Dilan and Michael Musilli — formalizing work the two had been building toward, quietly and unofficially, for about a year before.

Daniel Dilan

Co-founder & CEO

Leads Calliope's R&D in-house. Daniel has spent the last four-plus years building agentic AI pipelines and the tooling around them — systems that fold AI into real, applicable business use cases rather than demos. That work has spanned the whole stack, from software and infrastructure through design and go-to-market, which is the range a project like this demands.

Michael Musilli

Co-founder & COO

Runs the business and everything legal. Mike's range spans corporate administration and finance through the legal and capital machinery a research company depends on — patents, government contracting, venture funding, and private investment. He keeps Ioma Labs structured, funded, and fiscally and legally accountable, so the research has room to happen.
